The drying-out of the perimetre around the ISDND : ignored risks.

Everybody knows that the digging of a pit or a pond tends to dry out another less deep pit or pond situated on the same underground water table.

The drying-out of the 15 hectares around the ISDND will necessitate the digging of a 600 metre-long trench to the depth of 10 metres. Its bottom will be situated between the points 182,5 and 185, that is to less than 5 metres from the bottom of the hill. It may dry-out a big part of the sub-soil. This risk has never been taken into account by the industrial company GED. The only study of the sub-soil was done by the firm Technosol. It does not deal with this topic.

A few guidelines about the vulnerability of springs: website:

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/captage_d’eau_potable

«Ifin a water-catchment area the water extraction is superior to the capacity of the water source to replenish through rainwater or from another source (this would be the case in the village of Cohignac) the level of the water table can rapidly decrease with different consequences, such as:

- lack of water above and below less deep water-catchment areas (the wells of Kerroch, the water source of Mr Donniou on the road of Parc-Pell, the water-catchment of Kersapine, …)

- the worsening of droughts (the pastures on the hillsides will become more fragile in the summer) and risks of land slides (e.g. erosion of clay-base soils, the dehydrated peat-bogs will become mineralised).

- the widening of the top cone with the modification of the soil structure ( eventual dehydration and apparition of cracks in the soil which would enable the vertical infiltration of polluting agents.) This is highly unadvisable in our area of crops and pasture-land already saturated with pollutants.

- further ecological impacts ( the drying-out of natural wetlands) (e.g. the SNIEFF type 1 named “The peatbog of Kerroc’h just south-east of the GED site). These water sources will dry out because of the lowering of the water level (the 0 level corresponds to the theoretical level of the water source) and corresponding to the level of the water when the river is directly fed by the water source (this is the case for the Stanven brook situated upstream of the water source), the destruction of fish spawning grounds near the water-source, etc.

The soil movements and the apparition of cracks in the soil could become a risk to the GED site itself. The soil is already natural cracked. The movements of the soils which would slide down the slope could damage the geotextile membranes which are the sole protections for the site from the neighbouring soil. The amount of products could not in any way block the movements of the soil as it would be less dense (density of 1) than the rocks around it.

To conclude the proposed project by GED is totally irresponsible.
